WinWord and Excel documents can be imported, exported, edited and in the case of WinWord searched for text. This also applies to documents which are created with other word processing or spreadsheet programs, provided that they support OLE.

The InfoRapid Cardfile System contains a text editor which works even if you haven't installed another word processing program on your computer.

Pictures in the most important image formats (except GIF images) can be imported and viewed. You can enter a description text for every picture by which it can be retrieved later on. Pictures can be turned in 90 degree steps and displayed brighter or darker.

You can create a hierarchical diagram with small preview images of all archived pictures, the description text and the date/time when the picture was taken with the command “Create Image Summary”. A double click on one of the preview images opens the associated picture. The image summary can be zoomed and split in several pages for printing. In addition, it can be copied over the clipboard into other documents.

The command "Auto Insert from Clipboard" can be used to easily collect and archive texts and pictures. So, for example, if you're doing a research on the internet and you want to collect all the documents you have found then you just have to mark the interesting text parts and copy them into the clipboard. InfoRapid inserts them automatically as new cards into the database and takes the first text line as card name which is displayed in the index tree.

InfoRapid stores all documents in compressed form in a database. For images, you can alternatively choose to store only the preview image and a link to the original image file in the database. So you can save your pictures on CD-ROMs and have nevertheless a permanently accessible picture list on your hard disk.

The InfoRapid Cardfile System supports all scanners, for which a Twain driver is available. The scanned pictures are stored as new documents in the database.

You can insert Hyperlinks into text and image documents, with which you can jump directly to any other card page in the database. You can use them also to jump to web pages or to compose e-mails.

The size of an InfoRapid database is limited to 2 Gigabyte. Except for it, the number of card indexes, folders and cards is not limited. Every card index can contain any number of folders and cards, and every folder can contain any number of subfolders and cards. Every card can contain any number of documents, which are stored as card pages and which can be accessed by tabs at the top of the card.

The index tree can be sorted alphabetically or numerically.

Documents and images can be imported and exported. During the import/export process, the program creates a folder for every imported directory and the other way round it creates a directory for every exported folder. InfoRapid text documents can be imported and exported as WinWord, HTML, RTF or TXT documents. Additionally, Excel and PDF documents can be imported as InfoRapid text documents. To do so, you must have installed the corresponding MS Office converters on your computer. For all other document types, you must have installed the corresponding OLE server (e.g. WinWord, Excel or the Acrobat Reader) to be able to import them. Exporting them works only, if the OLE server supports the ActiveX Document interface. This is the case for WinWord and Excel since Office 95.

Cards, folders and card indexes can be copied and moved by drag and drop or over the clipboard from one place in the index tree to another. With the help of the clipboard, they can be even copied between two databases.

Selected cards, folders and card indexes can be searched for text with the included full text search engine. The full text search works not only for pure text documents, it also works for WinWord documents and most other OLE documents. The program offers a standard search, where boolean and regular search expressions can be used and a phonetic search, with which you can search for similarly sounding phrases. The search results are listed in a table together with a small text excerpt. They can be browsed with the function keys F4 and Shift+F4.

Strings can be replaced context sensitive in all selected cards, folders and card indexes.

Databases can be browsed with the funtion keys from F5 to F8 or with the buttons in the Browsebar. Browsing works either pagewise, cardwise or folderwise.

You can use the command “Create Text Summary” to summarize the contents of all selected cards in one single document. This makes it possible to print all documents in the database in one step.

Cards can be used as text modules by dragging them from the index tree to the place in the document, where they should be inserted. Text modules can contain input fields and selection lists, whose value is queried after the text module has been inserted.
